India’s white-collar hiring rose 14% in October 2026, and GCC, AI and senior roles grew fastest, so employers now compete harder for the same experienced people. The Naukri JobSpeak Index for October 2026 stood at 2,836, against 2,480 a year earlier.

Part of the jump is a calendar effect, because Diwali fell in October last year. Even so, the demand for AI skills and senior talent looks real.

If you are hiring in India this quarter, speed now decides who gets the candidate. The best EOR in India can put an offer in front of them the same working day your contract is signed.

India’s white-collar hiring in October 2026: overall, GCCs, AI and ML roles, and senior professionals, year on year

Hiring rose in almost every sector, led by automobiles, BPO and banking. These are the numbers that matter most for foreign employers, from Info Edge’s October 2026 report and Storyboard18’s coverage of the release:

Segment Change in October 2026, year on year
All white-collar hiring +14%
Automobile and auto ancillary +36%
BPO and ITES +17%
Banking and financial services +16%
IT and software services +5%
AI and machine learning roles in IT +32%
Global Capability Centres +18%

IT services grew only 5%. Within it, though, AI and machine learning hiring rose 32%, Storyboard18 reported. Specialist skills, not general coding, are driving tech hiring.

GCC hiring rose 18%, against just 4% growth in September. That fits the run of new centres we covered in our piece on October’s GCC moves.

Is the 14% Rise Real or a Diwali Effect?

Partly both. Diwali fell in October 2025, so last year’s base was soft, and that lifts this year’s comparison.

Info Edge MD and CEO Hitesh Oberoi said the festive base should be kept in mind, according to Storyboard18. He added that manufacturers are building capacity and that demand for AI skills remains strong.

So treat 14% as a strong month, not a new normal. Naukri’s report on September hiring showed a steadier picture: 2% growth overall, 4% for GCCs and 20% for AI and machine learning roles.

Which Roles and Cities Are Employers Competing Over?

Senior professionals and a handful of fast-growing cities. Hiring of people with 13 to 16 years and 16+ years of experience rose 22% each, while fresher hiring rose 15%, Storyboard18 reported.

Among the metros, Hyderabad led at 15%, followed by Pune at 14% and Delhi NCR at 13%, the Info Edge report shows. Bengaluru and Mumbai grew 12% each.

Smaller cities grew faster still. Gandhinagar rose 48% and Surat 36%, which makes tier 2 cities worth a look if metro salaries stretch your budget.

When senior candidates hold several offers, counter offers and offer dropouts rise. The employer who moves first usually wins the hire.

What Should You Do If You Are Hiring in India This Quarter?

Move faster, pay for skills and look beyond the usual metros. Four steps help:

  1. Cut the time from final interview to written offer to a day or two.
  2. Benchmark senior and AI salaries now with our guide to average salaries in India.
  3. Open roles in Pune or Hyderabad as well as Bengaluru, where hiring grew more slowly.
  4. Budget the full cost of each hire. At Remunance’s 9% of CTC, recruiting a ₹24 lakh senior hire costs ₹2.16 lakh.
